Everything you need to know about FactOver — answered honestly.
General
FactOver is a community-powered platform where real users review advertised products and rate whether the ad's claims matched reality. It helps you check if a product ad is misleading before you spend your money. You can share any ad from Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, or any other platform directly to FactOver and see what the community says.
Yes, FactOver is completely free to download and use. You can search products, read reviews, share ads, write reviews, and get scam alerts at no cost. Rewards redemption (discount codes, lucky draws) will become available when the Rewards Store launches — earning points is free and always will be.
FactOver works with ads from any platform. You can share URLs from Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, Google Ads, Amazon, Flipkart, or any other website. You can also photograph ads from TV screens, billboards, or print materials using the camera feature — FactOver's AI reads the image and extracts the product details automatically.
FactOver is currently available on Android (Android 8.0+). iOS support is coming soon. Sign up for the waitlist or follow us to be notified when the iOS app launches.
Writing Reviews
No. FactOver has three review types: Verified Purchase (bought + proof uploaded), Used This Product (gifted or free sample), and Seen the Ad Only (watched ad, no purchase). All three are welcome. Verified Purchase reviews carry 2× weight in the Trust Score, but any honest experience counts and helps the community.
A Verified Purchase review is one where you upload proof of purchase — an invoice, order confirmation email, or delivery screenshot. Our admin team privately reviews the proof (it is never shown to other users). Once approved, your review gets a ✅ Verified Purchase badge and carries 2× weight in the product's Trust Score. You also earn +10 bonus Trust Points when your proof is approved.
Yes, completely. Your purchase proof is reviewed only by our admin team and is never shown to other users or shared publicly. It is stored securely and used solely to verify your purchase and grant you the Verified Purchase badge.
Yes. You can edit your review at any time from your profile. Editing re-opens the review wizard pre-filled with your previous answers. You can also delete your review, but note that deleting deducts the points you earned when you submitted it. You can only write one review per product.
Trust Score & Ad vs Reality Gap
The Trust Score (0–100) measures how accurately the product ad represents the real product, based on community votes. When a reviewer submits, they vote: "Ad Accurate ✓", "Somewhat ~", or "Not Accurate ✗". These votes are weighted by review type — Verified Purchase reviews count more than ad-only reviews. The score is recalculated automatically with each new review.
The Ad vs Reality Gap compares two groups: people who only saw the ad (their average star rating) vs people who actually bought or used the product (their average star rating). A large gap means the ad oversold the product. Labels range from ✅ Accurate to ⚠️ Highly Misleading. The gap score requires at least 3 reviews from each group before it displays.
A product Trust Score measures whether a specific ad's claims were accurate. A Brand Trust Score (0–100) is a multi-factor score that measures the overall trustworthiness of an entire brand — based on weighted average star ratings, verified review ratio, volume of reviews, complaint ratio, and scam flags. It covers 6 experience categories: Product Quality, Customer Service, Delivery, Pricing, Returns, and Overall. A minimum of 5 reviews from 3+ unique reviewers is required before a Brand Trust Score is shown.
Fake Reviews & Safety
Every review passes through automatic background checks: spam pattern detection (generic text that could apply to any product), velocity checks (too many reviews submitted in 24 hours), new account bias detection (brand-new accounts giving 5★ on multiple products), and device fingerprinting (multiple reviews for the same product from the same device). Suspicious reviews are flagged for admin review. Additionally, reviewers have a Credibility Tier — Flagged reviewers' reviews are collapsed by default on product pages.
No. Trust Scores and Brand Trust Scores are calculated entirely from real community reviews. There is no paid placement, no sponsored score improvement, and no way for a brand to purchase a better score. The only way to improve a score is to genuinely improve the product and customer experience.
Every reviewer has a Credibility Tier separate from their Trust Level. The five tiers are: 🌱 New (under 30 days), ✅ Trusted (active with good record), 🏆 Expert (consistently helpful), 🔍 Investigator (most trusted in community), and ⚠️ Flagged (high proportion of actioned reviews). Flagged reviewers' cards are collapsed by default on product pages. The tier is calculated automatically based on helpful votes received, verified reviews, review count, and admin actions.
Any user can report a review, review request, or product. Reports are trust-weighted: Newcomer reports carry 0.5× weight, Reviewer 1.0×, Expert 1.5×, Legend 2.0×. When the weighted report score reaches 3.0, content is auto-hidden and sent to admin review. This prevents a group of fake accounts from gang-reporting a genuine review into hiding — it takes earned trust to remove content.
